BEITBRIDGE – Tobias Ndou, a suspected gay who is on the run after a clash with his alleged male lover only identified as Evidence has turned out to be an elder and interpreter at AFM Beitbridge Assembly.
The news has shocked the church.
Several members of the church who spoke to The Mirror on condition of anonymity said that Ndou was a very senior and respected member of the church. He was also a key interpreter in the church.
The Officer Commanding Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo confirmed that Ndou attempted suicide after a fallout with his named gay partner over payment for services.
Ndou could not pay his gay partner R1 200 a month that they agreed upon and the two had a vicious public spat.
Efforts to get a comment from Ndou who has since been missing after the fall out on Tuesday last week were fruitless.
Ndou worked for former Beitbridge West MP Metrine Mudau at her grinding mill at Mashavire. He was severely pestered by Evidence over the R1 200 debt that initially he went to the Police to report blackmail. He later realized that the Police had found out the truth and he attempted suicide.
“We are shocked; we never expected such behavior from our elder. He would not tolerate any unacceptable behavior from congregants,” said one of the congregants.
