MASVINGO-Sports for All Trust headed by former OK Zimbabwe chief executive officer, Willard Zireva has donated groceries and money to Catholic Church run Mucheke based, Alfred Walter Hostel in Masvingo.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Wilson Seremani told The Mirror on the sidelines of the OK Zimbabwe sponsored Southern Tours Golf Tourney prize giving ceremony last week on Saturday that they bought groceries for the home worth RTGS$2 500, US$265 and RTGS$490 cash for the Hostel.
“The Trust which is in its 27th year has as per tradition managed to buy groceries for the mentally challenged children at the hostel who are going through very difficult times due to the economic situation prevailing in the country and it was only prudent that we give a helping hand,” said Seremani.
Alfred Walter Hostels was represented by Sister Maria Murwira who thanked the golfers for their timely donation as the institution was already running out of food.
“You have come at the right as we had almost exhausted our food suppliers and the business community that used to come to our rescue is also facing challenges. I am sure these items will take us until end of June and from there we just hope God will intervene and another well wisher will come on board to assist,” said Sister Maria.
The institution has about 90 students who are mentally challenged and some did not mange to make it back to school due to economic hardships as they failed to raise bus fares from their rural homes as some come from as far as Hwange, Bindura and Muazabani.
The other members of the Trust are Godfrey Gwainda treasurer, Celestine Gadzikwa and convener TendaiGwatiringa.
Ok Zimbabwe was represented by chief executive officer Alex Siyavora, Masvingo branch manager Shepherd Mahiya and Albert Katsande from the head office.
The company donated bins at every hole of the nine hole golf course.
Meanwhile, Clever Chikwati ruled the roost when he clinched the Southern Tours Golf two day tourney where he came first with 134 points on 15 handicap beating 60 other golfers from around the country, CephasNgwenya came second with 140 points on 5 handicap and Augustine Chinyengere was on third position with 144 points on 12 handicap.
