    Mwenezi poachers to pay $7 100 for killing cats


    MWENEZI- Two poachers who killed four javet cats (simba), one steenbok and a hare at Zim Bio Energy appeared before Magistrate Mandhlenkosi Ndlovu last week facing charges of contravening section 59(1) of the Parks and Wildlife Act Chapter 20:4.
    The section bars people from hunting with dogs.’
    Ndlovu sentenced the two to 12 months in prison where four months were set aside for five years on condition they do not commit a similar crime. They were ordered to pay the conservancy $7 100 compensation for the killed animals.
    Servious Munyimi (44) and Johannes Mazungunye (28) who both resides at Batanai Village under Chief Chitanga were caught with the meat of the killed animals which was confiscated by the Police.
    The State says that, on June 15, 2019, at around 1am, the two accused were spotted by Lemson Muchemwa (35), a game scout who was on patrol. Muchemwa saw them torching from a distance and followed them.
    He followed them until they reached their homestead where he discovered that they were hunting with four dogs and had killed four javet cats valued at $6 000, one steenbok with a value of  $1 000 and the hare valued at $100.
