MWENEZI – A Mwenezi woman has been remanded in prison after she allegedly zipped up her newly born baby in a monarch suitcase thereby suffocating the baby to death.
Pamela Rambanapasi (22) of Village 1, Mavambo under Chief Neshuro is married as a second wife and she allegedly lied to her husband that she had a three months pregnancy when the pregnancy was actually due.
Last week she complained of stomach pains and the husband  went to the neighbors to look for a scotch cart so that he would ferry her to hospital.
Rambanapasi gave birth to a baby boy before her husband returned. She shoved the baby into a suitcase and zipped it up and did not disclose to her husband that she had given birth.
When the husband returned he saw her bleeding and asked her the problem but Rambanapasi allegedly told him that these were pregnancy complications.
Rambanapasi’s husband rushed her to hospital and the nurse saw that there was nothing inside her womb. The nurse was shocked to find a newly born baby dumped inside the suitcase. The husband reported the matter at  Neshuro Police Station leading to his wife’s arrest.
She now faces charges of concealing birth of a child and was remanded in custody to May 9, 2019 while further investigations are being carried out.
Rambanapasi said she had a still birth and was afraid because she had told the husband that the pregnancy was three months.
    Nancy Makuvise prosecuted.
