MP Mangwiro upgrades 150km of roads in Chivhu

MP for Chikomba West, Dr John Mangwiro.

CHIKOMBA – The MP for Chikomba West legislator, Dr John Mangwiro has brought a lot of relief to the transit town of Chivhu by sourcing equipment and manpower to upgrade roads in the town some of which last saw facelift of any kind in 1992.
Dr Mangwiro who is also the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care told The Mirror that he sourced donations from well wishers who provided equipment for the rehabilitation of the gravel road network.
“Rehabilitation of the roads in Chivhu town has started following assistance from donors like Discovery Foods that provided equipment and Council that chipped in with diesel and salaries for the operators,” said Dr Mangwiro.
Chikomba Rural District Council chairman, Israel Dhikinya confirmed the development and said they intend to finish the work within three weeks time.
“We are very grateful to our MP for the timely gesture after our roads were left in bad shape after the rain season. It was going to cost the Council over RTGS$500 000 which is beyond our capacity, but with this donation we are relieved as we were not going afford to hire equipment at US$80/hour,” said Dhikinya.
Discovery Foods donated 3x30 tonne tippers, 2x20 tonne tippers and one front end loader. Dhikinya said they are upgrading the roads to the required standards so that when funds are available they can tar them without starting from scratch.
