    MASVINGO -
Former World Boxing Council (WBC) silver welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi has declared war on Argentine, Pablo Ezequiel Acosta whom he vowed to knock out on Africa Day at Harare International Conference Centre.
In the fight dubbed ‘Restoration’ Manyuchi has promised to floor the Argentine before the end of the 12 round bout and walk away with the two vacant belts, Global Boxing Union (GBU) and Universal Boxing Council (UBC) which will be unified on the day.
“I will not allow a foreigner to come and claim glory in my own backyard, never, I will fight for the glory of my motherland, I will knock him out before the end of the 12 rounds. I want to show the world that Manyuchi is back and back for good.
“I have shed more than 18kgs (from 88kgs to 69kgs) in preparation for this fight which will mark my come back before I fight again in August this year. At 29 I still have a lot to offer, I had made a wrong decision to retire but after second thoughts I decided to come back as I felt I have unfinished business in the ring,” said Manyuchi in an interview with The Mirror at Flamboyant Hotel where he spent one week training under the watchful eye of his Zambian coach Greetings Kaonga.
Manyuchi’s impressive record of 23 wins four losses and one draw (23-4-1) will be put to test as he fights under the newly licenced Charles Manyuchi Academy for the first time.
The academy will see six other boxers from his stable taking part during the night including one lady, Kudakwashe Chivandire (23) whom Manyuchi described as one of the best in the country fighting in the International Women Boxing association female bantaweight category for the first time in her carrier.
Tinashe Majoni, Brendo Dennis, Asani Milani and Alia Phiri are some of the boxers who will take part in the tournament under Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy.
In 2017 Manyuchi lost his WBC title after he was knocked out by Qudratillo Abduxorov from Azerbaijan in the first round in Singapore and he has put all that behind and is ready to bring back glory for his country.
NetOne which has been spearheading sports sponsorship in the country and Tinmac owned by Tino Machakaire poured in RTGS$30 000, Dendairy, Delight Credit,Rainbow Tourism Group, Talcourt Construction,Athletes Sphere Management and PhilJen Country Lodges are some of the companies sponsoring the Cahrles Manyuchi Academy for the ‘Restoration’ bout.
There will be other boxers from Malawi, Tanzania and Zambia fighting during the night at HICC and Manyuchi has called upon Zimbabweans to come in their numbers for a memorable night.
A budget of about $153 000 has been set, which will go towards meeting the costs for the boxers’ purses, board and travel and sanction fees, among other logistical needs.
