Gutu to have 2 magistrates as JSC builds more offices

GUTU- Gutu Magistrates Court is set to get another Magistrate following the construction of more offices by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) at the centre.
This was revealed by JSC secretary, Walter Tambudzai Chikwana during the official commissioning of the newly constructed four office block and refurbished building at the courts last week on Friday.
The event which came three days after President Emmerson Mnangangwa officially commissioned the new Labour Court building in Harare dovetails into the JSC’s vision to improve access to justice by everyone in the country.
Chikwana said Gutu was the only Magistrates’ court station in Masvingo Province which did not have legal aid services for the public.
“I am disappointed that Gutu Magistrates’ court is the only station in Masvingo which does not have this legal service. The court house here was so small that there was no possibility of accommodating extra personnel.
“The station is operating with one magistrate despite it being the busiest one after the provincial station at Masvingo. When a second magistrate was deployed to the station he left because there was no decent office accommodation for him”, said Chikwana.
He added that on June 1,this year there will be a second magistrate at Gutu court to work with Victor Mohamadi.
The project which perfectly fits perfectly into Government’s broader framework of devolution was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare and Senator for Gutu, Lovemore Matuke who said the Council should follow the example of JSC in refurbishing old buildings as well as constructing new ones to improve the new town’s image.
Chief Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi encouraged chiefs to work together with resident magistrates and discuss on how to apply justice at their traditional courts.
The event was also attended by Masvingo City Mayor Collen Maboke, Senior Judge Garainesu Mawadze, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Yeukai Simbanegavi, legal practitioners and traditional chiefs.
