GUTU – Joseph Chigwedegwedze (32) who masqueraded as a lawyer and stole $100 from a ‘client’s Ecocash at Gutu Magistrates Court has been slapped with a three months prison term.
Chigwedegwedze of Nyamande Village under Chief Goredema appeared before magistrate Victor Mohamad on Friday facing fraud charges.
It is the State case that Chigwedegwedze was at Gutu Magistrates Court on May 2, 2019 where he met Faith Gondongwe a wife to Pride Chisvo who wanted to appear before the Magistrate over fraud.
Chigwedegwedze and Gondogwe had a conversation and Chigwedegwedze lied that he was a lawyer. He asked Gondogwe if she had money which he said he was going to pay fine for Gondongwe’s husband.
At 4pm Chisvo was fined $100 and that is when Chigwedegwedze asked for Gondongwe’s phone so that he could make payments. Chigwedegwedze then disappeared with Gondongwe’s phone.
The accused was caught in Hwiru with Gondongwe’s phone and he had done some Ecocash transfer. He was also found with documents belonging to different lawyers.
