Ex-prisoner harasses village head over food aid

    NDANGARIRODZSHE TASARIRAVONA

MWENEZI – Mwenezi resident Magistrate Honesty Musiiwa has barred Robson Paringira (32) of Mariote Ranch from visiting the homestead of his village head after he repeatedly harassed and threatened to beat him demanding social welfare food aid.
Paringira who seems too conscious of his rights told headman Tawedzerwa Dziva that the State had an obligation to support him and his family with food because he was away in jail.
Paringira left the court in stitches when he said that the Sate cannot expect him to be able to look after his family when he has been incarcerated. He said that he should get food each time vulnerable families receive their portions.
Paringira occasionally went to Dziva’s residence threatening to beat him for failing to provide him with monthly food allocations. At times the headman would end up giving Paringira mealie- mealie from his household in order to avoid being harassed.
Dziva said he had to seek a peace order as he was now fearing for his life.
“Three bags of maize are shared among all the vulnerable in the village and recepients rotate because the allocation is not enough to feed the whole village. Besides there is a committee that is responsible for food distribution so I do not know why I am always threatened by him. He is not the only one from jail, there are three others in the village but they look after their own welfare,’’ said the agitated village head.
“I am just from prison my Lord, my children are hungry and I merely ask the village head as a father to help my family through social welfare aid,” said Paringira
Musiiwa said it was a privilege for such an able bodied young man to get aid. He told Paringira to make an effort to work for his family and stop threatening others.
