MASVINGO- Defending champions Pamushana High School in Bikita, Masvingo will this year host the official launch of the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) Copa Coca Cola girls and boys tournament on May 15.
NASH Masvingo Province chairman, Cuthbert Chuma confirmed this to The Mirror and said preparations are already underway at Pamushana to host the launch of the tournament which is in its 30th year.
“We don’t have a lot of details on the list of guests, but what I know is that all the ten provinces will be represented and I can also confirm that Pamushana will host the launch and they have been advised to start preparing for the big event. This is an honour for the Province to host such an event which could have been held in Manicaland since they won the girls trophy,” said Chuma.
Last year the official launch was held at Rusununguko High School in Mash East after the school won the boys trophy in 2017.
Pamushana deputy head, Emmanuel Zingoni also confirmed and said they have chosen water storage tanks as the legacy project to be funded by Coca Cola at the school as per tradition.
Last year the tournament was held in Zvishavane in the Midlands Province and Nyamau-ru High School from Manicaland were crowned girls champions after brushing aside Mpopoma High School from Bulawayo 1-2 ending Chidyamakono’s five year grip on the trophy.
Pamushana dismissed Midlands based Gunea Fowl 2-0 to land the trophy for the second time after having done so in 2007.
Major Tikiwa one of the organizers said the draw for the tournament will also be held on the same day when they normally invite soccer legends like Moses Bambo Chunga.
“We are yet to finalise on the list of legends to be invited for the event and the prize money, but a lot of money is poured into the tournament. At the end of the day we are not much concerned about the prize money because what is important is the value that the tournament brings to the kids not the money,” said Tikiwa.
