MASHAVA – Promise Moyo, a gold panner at Graths Mine in Mashava is said to be on the run after he allegedly stabbed and killed another artisan miner Lameck Mangiza (30) following a dispute over tools.
The incident happened on Monday last week.
Assistant Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhehwa confirmed the incident and advised the public to desist from moving around with dangerous weapons.
Sources said Christopher Mangiza and his brother Lameck joined others at a mining site at around 6am and they were told that Lameck’s tools had been taken away by Moyo.
They went to Moyo’s place where they found his bother Moses Moyo standing by the gate. They asked for their tools and they were told that they were with Promise.
Promise who was sleeping was called and Lameck demanded for his tools from the former. The deceased was holding a rubber sjambok and he struck Moses with it. Promise then allegedly took a knife from his waist and charged towards Lameck who ran away for about 5metres and was stabbed close to the spine.
Lameck staggered backwards and fell. Christopher ran away after Promise and Moses had charged towards him. Promise and Moses then ran away and they are still at large.
Lameck was pronounced dead on arrival at the Hospital.
