    Companies donate to Bikita cyclone victims

    BIKITA –Several leading companies in Masvingo, NGOs and individuals made a bee-line to Mupanga Business Center in Ward 22, Bikita on Tuesday where they donated more than $20 000-00 worth of food, clothes and other items to victims of Cyclone Idai.
    Before the trip, most of them passed through the Minister of State for Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira’s office where the latter acknowledged their donations.
    At the ceremony in Bikita, the Provincial Administrator, Fungai Mbetsa said seven people were killed in Bikita while 6 370 were affected by Cyclone Idai. He said that 13 schools were severely damaged with rooftops blown off and structures crumbling.
    Philimon Mutangiri who first met the Minister of State donated a truckload of mealie-meal on behalf of Riverton High School. Several people shed tears during the emotional ceremony as they narrated the heavy losses they suffered.
    The function was held in Ward 22 because it was the worst affected in Bikita.
    Great Zimbabwe Realtors donated cartons of cooking oil, sanitary goods and salt and they were represented by their managing director, Edmore Chigonga.
    Tongaat Hullet donated three tones of sugar and N Richards brought five tonnes of maize. Econet Higher Life Foundation donated assorted groceries and bales of clothes. The National Aids Council (NAC) donated blankets.
    The other donors were Heifer International Zimbabwe, Christian Care, Environmental Management Agency, Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) , Dube Banda Nzarayapenga Legal practitioners, Christian Care and Revai Chapambwa.
    The donations were received by Civil Protection Unit (CPU) which is in charge of distributing donations.
    A resident from the affected area Marrian Mubungari thanked the donors for sparing a though for the victims.
    Mutangiri said that his organisation sourced the donation in response to the call by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to give assistance to those affected by the Cyclone.
    “We believe it will go a long way in helping those affected and we shall continue to source more assistance and forward it to the affected families,” said Mutangiri.
    Mbetsa, speaking on behalf of Chadzamira applauded the donors.
