    Beitbridge man ‘robs’ Gwanda bus passengers of R198 000

    GWANDA - A man suspected of robbing 75 passengers in Brooklyn Bus that was going to Bulawayo from Mussina has been denied bail and remanded in custody until April 24, 2019.
    The value of the goods stolen is ZAR 198 751, US$340-00 and $16 310-00 RTGS Bond and four of his suspected accomplices are still at large.
    Magistrate Lerato Nyathi denied the accused bail because he has high chances of absconding since his colleagues are still at large and the weapons used are yet to be recovered.
    It is the State case that Caston Tirivanhu (28) and four colleagues who are still at large pretended to be passengers and boarded the Brooklyn Bus at Irisvale towards Mbalabala turnoff.
    Near Irisvale turn-off along Bulawayo-Gwanda Highway the robbers produced six pistols and assaulted passengers while firing bullets into the air.
    Tirivanhu stays at house number 1635 Impala Drive in Beitbridge and is unemployed.
    Prosecutor Faith Mutukwa said the incident happened on February 11, 2019.
    They allegedly stole property such as cellphones, radios, blankets, bags of clothing, cameras, passports and money.
    CID Gwanda found the accused person in possession of four stolen cellphones, two of which were confirmed to have been used by the accused and his wife Mercy Nehemia. ZAR 7 100 and US$30-00 was also recovered from Tirivanhu’s house.
