    Woman treats raped daughter (10) with methylated spirit

    A Chiredzi woman (37) has been dragged to court for allegedly treating her 10-year-old daughter with methylated spirit  in a bid to conceal a heinous case of rape by the step-father.
    The court was told that the methylated spirit was used to treat wounds caused by the rape.
    The 36 year old  who is a vendor and the mother of the complainant appeared before Chiredzi Resident Magistrate Constance Mutandwa last Friday charged with rape while the complainant’s mother is charged with neglecting her daughter and defeating the course of justice.
    It is the State case that between mid January and February 9, 2019 the accused person called the minor into the house from where she was washing plates outside. The complainant’s mother had gone to do piece jobs.
    The accused undressed the complainant and laid her on the blankets. He allegedly told the minor that he wanted to have sex with her and threatened to assault her with a log if she screamed. He then allegedly raped her. The accused allegedly ordered the complainant not to disclose the ordeal to anyone. The accused then went out to sell his goods and left the minor alone at home.
    The minor told her mother about the rape when she returned but the complainant was told to keep mum about the issue.
    The complainant’s mother then used methylated spirit to treat sores on the former’s vagina. It is the State case the accused continued having sexual intercourse with the minor.
    A tip off was made to the Police by neighbours leading to the arrest of the accused. The mother was later arrested after it became clear that he she was an accomplice.
    Doubt Phiri prosecuted.
