CHIREDZI – Edmore Veterai, the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Sugarcane Development Association (ZSDA) was stopped from holding an elective congress of his organization last Friday by disgruntled members who armed themselves with a court interdict.
ZSDA is the second largest sugarcane farmers’ association after Commercial Sugarcane Farmers Association of Zimbabwe (CSFAZ).
The members complained that Veterai, a former senior Police officer and losing Zanu PF candidate for Bikita South in the 2018 elections had changed the constitution to seek a third three year term. They said that the constitution allowed a member to stand for just two terms. They accused him of tampering with the voters’ role and changing an election template to favour his friends.
The elections were supposed to take place at Mkwasine Country Club last Friday. A messenger of court served the papers just before the elections.
Veterai confirmed that their elective annual general meeting was stopped after the messenger of court brought interdicts at the venue.
