MASVINGO – Police acted just in time to save a three-year-old baby from crossing into South Africa after her mother hired out the toddler to women who wanted to use her during their begging stints.
Granna Chiondegwa (27) of Village 1 in Mushandike, Masvingo rural has since been arrested for hiring out her baby for R300 a month to Olinda Munodawafa (33) of Bere Township Mashava and Ivy Chepiri (28) of Shurugwi.
Before the journey to South Africa, Chepiri took the baby to Shurugwi so that she could familiarise herself with the duo.
Chiondegwa agreed with Munodawafa and Chepiri that if the deal succeeded she was going to be given R300 per month.
However, on February 28, 2019 Mashava Police received the information that Chiondegwa hired out her daughter and the three were arrested.
