CHIVHU - Police in Mash East have banned members of the public from carrying that could be used for violence including machetes, knobkerries and knives.
The ban follows an upsurge in armed robberies and murder cases, said Mash East Police spokesperson Tendai Mwanza. The increase in the criminal cases has been more pronounced from the beginning of this year.
The prohibition will run from March 8 to June 8 2019 for Marondera and Murehwa districts and from March 11 to June 11 2019 for Chivhu District.
Inspector Mwanza said armed robbers are moving in gangs and armed with weapons and firearms  so  as to instil fear and harm their victims.
