    GWERU –
Government operations at the Provincial Headquarters in Gweru came to a virtual stop last week when the building complex that houses most departments lost power for three days.
Most critically affected was the Registrar General’s office where people who had travelled from as far away as Gokwe could not pay for passports, national identity cards and birth certificates. They were turned away.
Angry people who wanted to do business called for Government to install a generator.
The three storey building had no power from Wednesday  last week  to Friday  and sources attributed the problem to Public Works Power utility Zesa spokesperson Fullard Gwasira said they are going to look into the matter.
The Minister of State for the Midlands Province, Larry Mavhima said he was busy and he could not comment.
Government workers were idle and most offices were deserted as there was total darkness at the offices.
Some departments at the Gweru complex are the Ministry of Information, Education, ZEC, DDF, Public works, Labour, Ministry of Youth, ICT and Public Service Commission.
One source said that the problem was not with Zesa but the Public Works.
