Mucheke robber loses thumb in fight with guard

     Owen Chinhuru.

An alleged notorious thief from Mucheke in Masvingo is recuperating at Masvingo Provincial Hospital after he lost a thumb in a ferocious fight with a security guard.
Owen Chinhuru who is said to have stolen from several other shops before he lost his luck on Sunday night when he entered Trinity shop at Mucheke Bus Rank through the ceiling. The weary shop owner had changed strategy after several thefts and this time left his  guard inside rather than outside the shop.
Police sources said that Chinhuru landed safely on the floor of the shop but was shocked to be confronted by the guard. He immediately became violent and attacked the guard who pulled out a machete and struck him once on the left hand thereby cutting off the thumb which was left hanging precariously on a thin piece of a flesh of meat.
Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the case.
It is suspected that Chinhuru was responsible for thefts from Taruona and Willies shops where he used the same tactic.
The guard who accounted for Chinhuru is Mukombe Taizivai.
