GWERU – The Minister of State for Midlands Province Larry Mavima is not happy that funds generated from Share Ownership Trusts (CSOT) in the province are not being spent on income generating projects.
He said the mines that are generating those funds will one day dry up and so will funds coming to the CSOTs. He urged beneficiaries of CSOTs to embark on income generating projects so that they continue to get money even when the mines come to the end of their lives.
Mavhima was speaking to three CSOTs which are Mberengwa, Zvishavane and Shurugwi during a CSOTs indaba at the Village Lodge in Gweru.
Mavima expressed his displeasure at the way Mberengwa CSOT was handling its income and promised to hold meetings with the trustees and  find better ways of using the funds.
“I am not happy that after receiving $900 000, Mberengwa decided to build a fancy office block which is not complete up to now. That money is not for the luxury of lavish offices but is supposed to benefit communities. I will have a one on one meeting with Mberegwa so that l establish what is really going on,” said Mavima
Mavima emphasised that CSTO funds are for projects.
“That money is not for development, if you build a classroom block today with the money imagine what will happen after ten years when Mimosa closes what will you do? Generate more money and you will see community development coming easily,” said Mavima.
