GUTU - Two police officers have appeared at Gutu Magistrates Court facing charges of taking a $50 bribe from a taxi driver and releasing the suspect.
Causemore Madamombe (39) and Trust Zimhuka (31) who are under Gutu Traffic appeared before Gutu Resident magistrate Victor Mohamadi on Monday and their matter was referred to Masvingo Magistrates Court.
It is the State case that on February 15, 2019 the two were on traffic enforcement duties at Reformed Church in Zimbabwe along Gutu –Chatsworth road when they stopped Shephard Rashamira who was driving a Toyota Starlet.
Madamombe physically inspected Rashamira’s vehicle and discovered that the rear number plate was missing. He arrested the later and impounded his vehicle which was taken to the Police station.
Rashamira was allegedly ordered to pay a fine of $85 for the defects but he did not have enough money on him. He then collected $15 from Gladys Chiuta and $10 from a Mrs Mashesheshe who were in his car and he topped up with $25 to make it $50.
He allegedly asked for proof of payment but no receipt was issued to him and he was told to go away and his car keys were thrown at him.
Rashamira drove away and reported to the Police. On March 6, 2019 an identification parade was conducted and Rashamira positively identified the two Police officers and they were arrested.
