    From interpreter to suspect; court official changes roles

    There was drama at Masvingo Magistrates Court on Tuesday when Antoneta Mugadza (35), an interpreter changed roles to a suspect when she was charged for allegedly stealing her workmate’s mobile phone.
    The matter is before Masvingo Provincial Magistrate Langton Ndokera.
    Mugadza is accused of stealing a mobile phone belonging to Tsitsi Chikwanda (37) who is also a court interpreter.
    Chikwanda made an attempt to withdraw the case on Tuesday on the grounds that the accused is a bread winner, widow and mother to a three year old baby but this was thrown out by Ndokera who ruled that the case should proceed. Chikwanda also felt sorry for the accused because they had worked together for 10 years.
    It is the State case that on February 1, 2019 Chikwanda left her Samsung Grand Prime cell phone charging in her office to attend a court session.
    The accused allegedly took advantage of the absence of the complainant and took away the cell phone. When the complainant failed to locate her phone, she reported to the Police and Investigations were done through service providers leading to the recovery of the cell phone from Nelia Witness of number 9146 Glen Norah C, Harare.
    Goodlove Gift Paddington Motsi who is accused person’s uncle said he got the cell phone from Mugadza.
