Chief Chitanga aide ‘steals’ a goat

MWENEZI - Joseph Rusenga (57) who is Chief Chitanga’s aide is appearing at Mwenezi Magistrates Court where he faces a charge of stealing a neighbour’s goat.
The State says Rusenga found the goat grazing unattended and sought the help of a young boy to drive the goat  to  Lundi Restaurant where he sold it for $37.
Rusenga resides at Kutanga Village under Chief Chitanga and is alleged to have stolen the goat from Emmanuel Chinyoka who resides at stand number 42, Lundi Business Centre  Mwenezi.
Rusenga drove the goat from the grazing pastures to the shopping center unaware that the goat had been identified by Ronald Mpofu who is the owner’s neighbor.
The accused sold the goat to Grateman Mandiva and the buyer asked for a clearance letter before slaughtering  goat. Rusenga gave him his phone to hold as security while he went home to collect the clearance.
It was when the accused had gone that Mpofu alerted the buyer to the fact that the goat was stolen and he returned to a barrage of questions as to the ownership but allegedly insisted that the beast was his.
The owner of the goat arrived shortly afterwards and said that the the goat was his. It is then that Rusenga allegedly changed his statement and said that he was selling the goat on behalf of a boy who had helped him drive the animal to the business centre.
This led to Rusenga’s arrest and the case continues before resident Magistrate Honesty Musiiwa.
The goat owner said the moment he asked Rusenga about the ownership of the goat, the accused insisted on untying it.
    Caroline Pasipanodya prosecuted.
