    Chief Fortune Charumbira (right).

Chief Fortune Charumbira has categorically refuted allegations that he is a member of the ruling Zanu PF and added that like anyone else he also has a lot of misgivings on some omissions and commissions by the party.
“I don’t carry a Zanu PF card and I don’t belong to any party. There are certain things that Zanu PF has lost like the ideals of the liberation struggle. The party has become greedy and corrupt,” said Charumbira.
He said the only area where he agrees with Zanu PF is on ethos of the liberation struggle.
He was speaking at a Press Club meeting convened at the Flamboyant Hotel in Masvingo on Sunday.
Charumbira accused Zanu PF of having little respect for the traditional leadership.
Charumbira who is currently in trouble with the courts of the country for rallying the electorate in favour of Zanu PF in violation of the Constitution and many chiefs were afraid of the ruling party.  He said he was different because he was a man of means who depended on his own resources.
Charumbira who has been a deputy minister in Government before supprised his audience when he said he used to work for an international organisation where he earned US$17 000 a month and said he only came back home to serve his country.
He said that he had never driven a Government vehicle.
Asked if he can meet the opposition leader Chamisa as the president of the Chiefs Council and a non-aligned chief, Charumbira dithered and said he did not want to be misconstrued hence he can never meet him in private. He said he is free to talk to Chamisa at public functions.
