    GWERU –
Eleven out of the 13 local authorities in the Midlands Province have failed to acquit roads funds disbursed by ZINARA thereby hindering the  process to release further funds.
This was said by ZINARA board Chairperson Micheal Madanha when he addressed heads of local authorities at a Gweru Hotel on Friday last week.
The local authorities that have not acquitted their allocations are Chirumhanzu RDC, Mberengwa RDC, Runde RDC, Tongogara, Vungu, Gokwe North and South RDCs, Gweru City, Zvishavane town, Shurugwi and Gokwe town councils, said Madanha
Madanha deplored the state of roads under most local authorities and blamed this situation on councils taking long to account for allocated funds.
“Councils frequently blame the bad state of their roads on us but we are merely saying account for the funds allocated to you then we disburse more. Local authorities should not blame ZINARA,” said Madanha.
The Minister of State for Midlands Larry Mavima who was present at the meeting said he will personally take local authorities to task over road maintainance and ZINARA acquittals.
“I will personally take councils to task over road rehabilitation. It’s not fair to our residents that you are given money to rehabilitate roads and you just sit on it until it loses value. We were given the mandate to serve people we should do that,” said Mavima
