    Zone A runs over Zone B and C in NAPH competitions

    Zone A in Masvingo District had a field day at Victoria Primary School on Friday when it trounced Zone B and Zone C in the National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH)  athletics competitions.
    Zone A which comprises of Gokomere Central Primary School, Masvingo Primary, Zimuto ZRP Camp, Hellen McGhie, and Victoria Primary hauled 20 gold, 18 silver and 10 bronze medals.
    Zone B came a distant second with a harvest of 12 gold, 12 silver and 23 bronze medals on a cloudy day. Zone B comprised of Don Bosco, Vurombo, Hillside, Shakashe and Rujeko Primary schools.
    Zone C comprising Runyararo SDA, Runyararo, Ratidzo Trust, Francis Aphiri, Dikwindi and Chikato Government anchored the group with 9 gold, 19 silver and 15 bronze medals.
    The competitions had three disciplines, track events, field events and physical education and three age groups U12, U13, and U14.
    Some outstanding athletes on the day were Regina Chitambira of ShakasheSchool, Shamiso Mavhuma of Gokomere; and Shaleen Mukwava of Francis Aphiri.
    NAPH sports chairperson Aleck Thabe applauded the athletes for their spirited performances and urged participants to compete well in upcoming interdistricts.
    “Things went well we were able to be on target and the competitions were tough. We hope the team will compete well in interdistricts. We will converge again here,” said Thabe.
    After the competitions, the Metro Zone sports announced a squad to represent it in the inter-district competitions to be held on February 22, 2019 at Renco Mine.
    Some 80 competitors were selected from different disciplines to partake at district level competitions.
     “Metro Zone usually produces at least four competitors to participate at Confederation of Schools Sports Association of Southern Africa (COSSASA). We are ready for inter-district competitions and for COSSASA. We are an excellent team,” said Thabe.
    Seven Zones will participate in the Bikita competitions and these are Mashava, Mushagashe, Zishumbe, Charumbira, Mushandike, Metro and Zimuto zones.
