    ZETDC aluminum cable ‘thieves’ nabbed in Zvishavane

    ZVISHAVANE – Four men, two of them workers with a leading supermarket were nabbed by Police in Zvishavane recently after being found in possession of 810kg of aluminum allegedly stolen from ZETDC.
    Tafadzwa Chitando (23) a baker with TM Supermarket, William Banda (26) a merchandiser with the same supermarket, Shadreck Kudakwashe Diza (45) and Mark Taweni(35) appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate Archie Wochiunga last week facing theft charges.
    Polite Shoko is representing ZETDC as the loss control officer.
    The court heard that on January 26 at around 1am the accused connived and proceeded to a place near Stand 5054 Council Park Zvishavane where they unlawfully took 810 kg of aluminum cables which were to be connected by ZETDC on a line connecting Council Park new residential stands.
     It was further heard that Taweni and Diza were intercepted by Police officers who were at the 93 km peg along Masvingo –Mbalabala Road while driving a white Toyota pickup loaded with alluminium cables.
    They were asked to produce documents for the cables but could not. They were taken to CID Zvishavane and they revealed that they stole the cables from a house near Javaraza Shopping Centre.
    Indications were done for the two and they were then transferred to VID Zvishavane where the cables were weighed.
     They were given $50 bail and the matter will continue on March 4 2019. Tinashe Maponde prosecuted.
