    Village head Peta dies in prison

    SADZA - Samuel Peta who was a serving a five-year jail term after he was convicted of attempted rape at the Chivhu Magistrates' Courts, died last week upon admission at Chivhu General Hospital.
    Peta, who was an MDC party member and former Gweru councillor for Ward 10 was serving at the Chivhu Prison but suffering from a long term illness.
    “He was not in good health and often received treatment at the prison clinic ever since he came to prison,” a prison officer said.
    His wife Otilia Peta is the MDC Alliance councillor for Ward 5 in Sadza.
    Zanu Pf Chikomba East legislature Dr Sekai Nzenza also Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare attended Peta’s burial which was held at his home in Chief Neshangwe’s area.
    Chikomba Rural District Council chairpersonIsrael Dhikinya,  several Zanu Pf councillors and members also attended the funeral.
    Mourners at his funeral described Peta as a mature politician, who was not divisive.
    Speaking at the funeral, Dr Nzenza urged the councillors to set aside political differences and work towards the development of the community.
    Dhikinya urged residents of Sadza to accept Otilia as their leader despite their political affiliations.
    “When councillors are elected into the local governance office, they don’t serve their political parties but all people. There is no political party discrimination in local governance affairs hence you should accept Peta (Otilia) as your legitimate representative,” Dhikinya said.
    Peta served as a councillor from 2003 to 2008.
    MDC Alliance Chikomba District organising secretary Edwin Maseva, who is councillor for Ward  11,  appreciated  the support offered  by the Zanu PF members.
    Former Gweru Mayor Charles  Chikozho, now councillor for Ward 10  was also present at the funeral.
