    Shurugwi man kills wife for not disclosing HIV status


    Tapiwa Tavaziva (32) from Village 4 in Shurugwi has pleaded guilty to murder. He killed the wife that he had just moved in with for not disclosing that she was HIV positive.
    Tavaziva appeared before Judge Justice Mabhikwa at the High Court in Gweru and was sentenced to 28 years in jail.
    It is the State case that on January 8, 2018 and at around 9pm the accused struck his wife with an axe in the head and she died on the spot.
    Asked why he did it the man told the court that his wife had lied to him about her age and did not disclose that she was HIV positive.
    "I did this because I was pained by the lies my wife told me. She lied about her age and she did not disclose that she was HIV positive and this angered me," said Tavaziva.
    The court further heard that the two met in Shurugwi and the deceased had four children with another man.
    Tavaziva later stayed at her wife's homestead and the problem came when he discovered that his wife had been lying that she was a divorcee.
    He discovered this when the husband died and also realised that he was HIV positive. "
    The accused also stated that after the death of the deceased's husband he came across ARVs that the wife was taking.
