    GWERU –
Regina Mundi High must have set a new record for the southern region after posting 100% pass rate for both O and A level Zimsec results for 2018.
The school’s O level pass rate improved from 97.27% in 2017 to 100% in 2018.
The school head, Sr Concillia Jangara confirmed the results and said she was elated by the achievement. The results obviously place Regina Mundi among the few best schools in the country.
The quality of the O level  results is exceptional as 89 out of the 129 students or 68,99% passed with 5As and above. Only one student out of 129 passed with just five subjects.
Sr Jangara attributed the results to hard work from everyone at the school.
“I am very happy that we set a goal for ourselves and we hit the target. l am very strict when it comes to both learners, teachers and parents but overall l am happy we made it and have set a new record for our school.
“I also want to attribute these good results to meaningful and closely supervised studies for forms 3 to 6. These seniors study under one roof which is subject to very close supervision by teachers. They have two study sessions; the first is from 6pm to 8pm and then they get evening tea to energise and return to studies up until 10pm.
“Supervising teachers during these study sessions are monitored by the admin personnel to make sure that they are keeping a close eye on our kids so l believe these efforts paid well,” said Sr Jangara
In addition to the study sessions, the teachers do one on one consultations with pupils where the learners get an opportunity to talk to their teachers on areas of their difficulties.
The school hosts monthly merit awards for best junior and senior students, the winners receive money and certificates. The best teachers also get certificates during the monthly awards and this encourages everyone to work hard for recognition.
“In as much as we are very happy with our ‘O’ level results we did not do well in ‘A’ level. We have 100 percent pass rate yes but the quality of our results is not pleasing at all. We have a few strategies that will be tried this year and l am confident this will improve the quality of ‘A’ level pass rate,” said Jangara
She said the school’s best teachers are Chengetai Mashiringwane who has 101 As out of 129 in Geography followed by Agnes Nyakurehwa and Paul Mudzingwa with 113 As in Heritage studies.
