    Hwendedzo man gets 18 years for raping daughter

    MASVINGO - A man from Hwendedzo Village under Chief Musara was jailed to 18 years in prison for raping his 10-year-old biological daughter.
    He will serve an effective 16 years in prison after two years were suspended on condition that he will not commit the same crime in the next five years.
    Joseph Munema (30) appeared before Regional Magistrate Dambudzo Malunga last week facing three counts of rape.
    The State, represented by Edwin Mbavarira said Munema was with the daughter after her mother had gone to the shops to fix her sim card.
    At 2pm, Munema sneaked into the kitchen where his daughter was sleeping. He lowered his trousers to knee level, removed the juvenile’s skin tight and pants and had sexual intercourse with her twice without her consent. The complainant woke up after some pain was caused to her private part.
    At around 3pm the juvenile proceeded to the bedroom where she slept again and her father followed and had sex with her for the third time.
    The juvenile reported the matter to her mother on her return from the business centre.
    On December 10, 2018 a report was made to the Police leading to Munema’s arrest.
    The complainant was medically examined at Masvingo Provincial Hospital.
    He was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment; two years were suspended on condition that he does not commit the same offence for five years leaving him with effective 16 years.
