AFM overseer kicks out pregnant daughter-in-law (16)

    CHIREDZI –
A Chiredzi family has expressed disgust and revulsion at a powerful Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM) Overseer based in Chiredzi who allegedly kicked out a 16-year-old Form 4 girl impregnated by his son.
The Pastor’s family allegedly tried to force the girl (name supplied) to abort after paying $500 to a doctor in Chiredzi. The family said the pregnancy would tarnish the family’s good name it kept.
It is illegal to terminate a pregnancy in Zimbabwe unless one has a medical condition or has been raped.
The girl who was supposed to write her O levels at Mkwasine Secondary School in November is now wandering from one relative to another. The Mirror is told that the girl is an orphan who was staying with a grandmother in Mkwasine.
Overseer Vitalis Jinjika who is in charge of the church’s Lowveld Province and is one of three most powerful AFM pastors in the Province said he had no reason to speak to The Mirror and switched off his phone when contacted for comment.
However, a man who earlier answered Jinjika’s phone and said he was his brother confirmed the matter and said that they had dealt with the case “the family way”.
The girl was allegedly impregnated by Elias Jinjika (24) who has completed his Electrical Engineering studies at Mushagashe Vocational Training Centre
Ousy Nhenjana, the girl’s relative lsaid he is disgusted by the overseer’s attitude towards the juvenile. He said that Jinjika kicked out  the girl from his place on February 12 and described her as “a filthy girl that cannot be his son’s partner” after she had gone there with the pregnancy.
“We are disgusted by the treatment that a whole overseer gives to an innocent little girl. Here is a powerful man of God who is supposed to protect children but alas he says of the child; mwana wangu haabati svina dzakadaro. He actually said this and I challenge him to dispute this,” said Nhenjana.
The Mirror has WhatsApp messages and voice recordings in which Jinjika’s daughter, Sharon was pushing the girl to terminate the pregnancy.
Sharon told the girl that at seven weeks the pregnancy can be terminated without any problems. She told the girl to go to the Chiredzi doctor who was allegedly waiting to do the abortion.
“Iwe Sharon, tell us if you don’t want to do it, we have paid $500 for you to terminate that pregnancy. It’s still only blood, it has not developed into a baby yet, stop behaving like a child and do what is right for everyone,” Sharon is heard saying in the voice recordings.
The pregnancy came out in the open when the girl started showing signs of nausea, fatigue and swollen breasts and after questioning she told relatives the person responsible for the pregnancy.
She was then taken to the Pastor’s family where she was allegedly kicked out.
