    CHIVHU -
Goodhope Primary, a privately-run school in Chivhu maintained a 100 % pass rate for the year in a row with one pupil obtaining five units in the 2018 Grade 7 Zimbabwe ZIMSEC results.
Chikomba District had three schools, Goodhope, Zuru and Kurima, which obtained a 100% pass rate.
Runyararo Primary School came fourth in the Top 10 district ranking, with a 98 % pass rate.
Although it had a 91.5 % pass rate, Chivhu Primary had five out of the six pupils who obtained five units throughout the district. All the five pupils are female. The school’s pass rate rose from 83% in 2017.
Consistent with the national Grade 7 result analysis, female pupils in Chikomba District performed better than males.
Overall district pass rate improved from 55% of 2017 to 62% in 2018, which is above the 52.08 of the national pass rate.
Chikomba District Schools Inspector Emmanuel Kwenda said the improvement in the pass rate was attributed to the various staff development programmes such as workshops which equipped teachers with skills and knowledge and enhanced learning among pupils.
“Last year the pupils did not sit for the Chikomba District examinations due to constraints in resources but I am pleased that the pupils managed to perform very well,” he said.
Chikomba District has 118 primary schools and 3237 pupils sat for the 2018 ZIMSEC exams.
