    Village head Peta jailed 7 years for attempted rape

    SADZA – Samuel Peta, a village head in Chief Neshangwe’s area in Chikomba has been sentenced to seven years in prison for attempting to rape a woman (22) he found gathering firewood in the hills.
    Peta (63) pleaded not guilty and told the court that it was not possible that he would attempt to rape a woman because he has an erectile disfunction.
    Chivhu regional Magistrate Fadzai Mutombeni found the accused guilty and slapped him with a seven year jail term and ordered him to serve an effective five years.
    It was the State case that on March 5 2017, the complainant was fetching firewood from a kopje in the Village. Peta approached the woman from behind and lifted her skirt. He grabbed her by the waist and unzipped his trousers. 
    The complainant screamed for help and her uncle came to her rescue.
     Peta ran away from the scene when he saw the uncle coming.
