ZVISHAVANE – The State on Thursday last week failed to nail two alleged money changers charged for money laundering on suspicion that they were exchanging money.
The case collapsed after the State failed to prove the rate at which the suspects were changing the money.
Pretty Mutanga (31) and Kudakwashe Raisi (23) appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate Shepherd Mjanja.
The two faced charges of illegal dealing in currency as defined in section 5(1) (a) of the Exchange Control Act Chapter 22:05 as read with section 2 (a) of the exchange Control regulations instrument 22a of 2017 'illegal dealing with currency'.
Tinashe Maponde, representing the State said on November 5 this year at around 2pm detectives Chiwawa and Mutopa were on foot patrol when they intercepted Mutanga and Raisi exchanging money at Madheiea Complex.
Kudakwashe told the court that they were apprehended when Mutanga approached him with US$20 asking for change.
