Stanbic Bank has donated 17 refuse bins to Beitbridge Town Council. The bins were handed over by the Bank on Monday.
Beitbridge deputy Mayor Munyaradzi Chitsunge who received the bins from Stanbic branch manager Martin Nyatsango on behalf of the local authority, commended the Bank for the gesture.
Nyatsango said Stanbic is conscious of its operations in terms of social, economic and environmental impact.
“As Stanbic Bank we are very conscious of our operations in terms of social, economic and environmental impact. In this case, we are aware that we contribute to waste generation as an organization and therefore it is imperative that we ensure safe and responsible disposal of waste.
“More importantly, we urge Beitbridge residents and visitors to use the bins and not discard litter on the ground or from moving vehicles,” said Nyatsango.
“It’s a good gesture that you have done, we appreciate you, what is left on our part is to ensure that people don’t litter. The executive has to make sure that bylaws are implemented in terms of littering, people have to pay a fine if found littering because bins are there. For instance in South Africa, if one is found littering, you pay a fine or you are made to pick up the litter. If you notice, if you cross over to Musina, there is no littering but here there is a lot of litter in streets,” said Chitsunge.
The donation has added up the bins to a total of 400 that the municipality has with 700 tonnes of litter collected every month.
