    MASVINGO –
Junior Phiri (50), a prominent Catholic from Rujeko died on Wednesday last week after suffering a heart attack.
Phiri died almost 10 months after her daughter Alice who was a nurse at Parirenyatwa Hospital died in a suspected murder case. Speakers at the funeral including Phiri’s husband Edward said the late never recovered from the shock of her daughter’s death.
“She would break into sobs any time she thought about her daughter and that must have triggered heart problems for her. She was never well again,” said Edward.
Phiri was also well known in Masvingo for selling airtime near Bobs Restaurant.
Phiri was buried at the Lawn Cemetery on Friday last week where tens of people from across the social divide converged to pay their last respects.
Phiri was born in Mt Darwin and went to Don Bosco Primary in Masvingo but could not proceed to secondary school due to financial constraints.
In Masvingo she was staying with her parents in the Bushmead area where she met Edward Phiri who was a teacher at Charumbira.
Phiri is survived by a son, Sam.
