The Zaka Rural District Council has unveiled a $6,6 million budget

ZAKA- The Zaka Rural District  Council has unveiled a $6,6 million budget for 2019. Zaka RDC acting  chief executive  officer Nancy Chatikobo said this in a full council meeting held on Tuesday afternoon. The budget is up 3 times  the current $1,8 million, will prioritise uncompleted projects undertaken this year in addition to the purchase of a borehole drilling machine, a dozer, a grader, a refuse truck,a roller and a tipper.
“We are proposing a budget of $6.675 263 million for 2019 and this is up 3 times the current budget of $1.890 862,” she said. “We are looking at continuing with some of the projects that we started in the current budget which we have not yet completed or have not been able to commence which include the servicing of stands at Nyabare Park .”
Chatikobo said if the ratepayers were to play their role by settling their water and rates bills, the local authority would ensure that council improves on its service delivery mandate.
She said some of the projects council wants to undertake in 2019 include the construction of Benzi Clinic in Ward 26, a classroom block at Jerera Primary School in Ward 19 , construction of staff houses at  newly constructed Njiva and Machiva clinics ,purchase of roads equipment among others.
“We have set aside $ 2 608 700.00 for the construction of Benzi Clinic, a classroom  block at Jerera  Primary School, office extension, drilling community  boreholes and purchase of roads equipment ” said Chatikobo. “Benzi area is in dire need of health services since it is a remote area and no such infrastructure is available.”
She said the clinic would serve people in the area who were travelling long distances to access health facilities in Jerera.
“Road rehabilitation continues to be an ongoing priority,” she said. “We have set aside a budget for road maintenance next year. Grading is required especially in the remote areas of the district and as such, we are proposing to purchase a grader,a dozer and a tipper to make sure that travelling becomes easy to our rate payers”, she said.
Chatikobo said council was also keen on completing the servicing of 130 housing stands at Nyabare Park as well as purchasing water and sewer reticulation equipment. She also said the council was going to purchase a refuse collection truck to make sure that the district in particular Jerera Growth Point is free from diseases like cholera and typhoid.
She however  bemoaned the on going increase  of basic commodities saying the problem was affecting the purchase of building materials and other materials for development of Nyabare Park.

Currently, the council’s budget performance  is at 54.72% , having collected $1 034 637.66 million out of the $1 890 862 current budget.
