    Gwanda RDC gives awards to best schools, clinics

    Gwanda Rural District Council has given awards to the best performing primary and secondary schools under its portfolio.
    The local authority has also awarded its best clinics and this year it also added Government clinics in the annual awards.
    The awards are intended to incentivize staff for better performance and hence quality service to the communities.
    In the primary schools category, Ntepe Primary was adjudged number one, Nhwali came second, Collen Bawn third and Sabiwa Primary fourth. Most improved primaries are Nhwali and Gwakwe.
    In the secondary school category, Mkhalipe secondary was adjudged the best and Tshanyaugwe Secondary came second and the same schools also emerged as the most improved.
    In the high schools category Nkazhe came first and Mzimuni came second. The most improved high schools are Halisupi, Sabiwa and Collen Bawn High
    All the eight winning schools plus subject teacher walked away with prizes amounting to $9 180.
    The best schools were mainly determined by the pass rates.
    Gwanda RDC social services officer Sibonile Mpofu announced the awards to the local authority’s full council meeting held two weeks ago.
    The Rural Health Center overall winner award went to Simbumbumbu followed by Lushonkwe then Gungwe clinic while that of the Best Performing Rural Health Center went to Lushonkwe, Silikwe then Sitezi clinic. Other rural health centers were given a token of appreciation in form of a 15cm mini shield and a single computer desk.
    “In schools we are looking at the best performing RDC schools, both primary and secondary and then the best subject teachers in secondary basing on external results. The subject teachers get 15cm mini shield and $65; the school gets a floating trophy and some money,” said Mpofu.
    “In the previous years we excluded Government health centers but this year we have included the Government institutions.
    The judges used Result Based Finances (RBF) score sheets for judging health service centres.
