Gunshots at Gutu Garage – Zaka engineer in trouble

    TATENDA CHIZU

GUTU – Zaka Rural District Council (RDC) Engineer, Abel Chivasa has been fined $130 for discharging an unlicensed firearm in public.
It is the State case that Chivasa stopped at Mpandawana along Gutu Roy Road to pick up passengers when touts emerged and demanded money from him. They surrounded his car so that he could not leave.
An irate Chivasa pulled out a Star pistol and fired three shots in the air, sending the shell-shocked touts scurrying for cover. He sped off but the incident was noticed by a member of the Zimbabwe National Army who reported the case to the Police leading to Chivasa’s arrest.
The matter was heard by resident Magistrate Victor Mohamadi.
Prosecutor Kudakwashe Muza said that on Saturday at around 3pm, Chivasa was on his way to Jerera driving a Toyota Mark 2 registration number ACS 5912 when he passed through Gutu.
Police recovered the Star pistol and one round of ammunition from Chivasa.
On count two, Chivasa was found without a  valid certificate for his Star pistol as it had expired on February 1, 2018.
Chivasa was fined $100 or two months imprisonment for the first count and on the second count he was fined $30 or 10 days imprisonment.
