    Chivhu miner loses US$30 000 to robbers

    CHIVHU - A Zvishavane-based gold miner was robbed of US$30 000 he kept in his house at his rural home in Nyazvidzi on Tuesday last week.
    Three suspects, Misheck Marongwe (33), Trevor Woyo (18) and Tatenda Nyikadzino (27) were arrested the following day for allegedly stealing US$25 000, R25 000 and $450  bond notes from David Nhokwara.
    The other three accomplices in the matter are Walbrought Muchazorega (27), Arkim Tadiwa (28) and Simbarashe Mature (35) who bought a car each with the money.
    Marongwe, Woyo and Nyikadzino appeared before Chivhu resident magistrate Ngoni Nduna on Friday facing armed robbery charges and were not asked to plead.
    They were remanded to January 23 2019 for routine remand.
    Magistrate Nduna advised the trio to apply for bail at the High Court.
    It is alleged that on January 8 2019, the trio which was dressed in camouflage and armed with machetes, budged into Nhokwara’s house where his wife and three children were.
    They tied their hands from behind with shoelaces. They then force- marched them into their bedroom while assaulting them and demanded to know where Nhokwara was.
    They took cash, a television set, five cellphones and gold scales. They then locked the door from outside and drove off in their Honda Fit motor vehicle.
    Total value of goods stolen is US$29 950.00 and nothing has been recovered.
