    Makausi is Masvingo’s best school head

    MASVINGO - Ndarama High School made  Masvingo District Merit Awards competitions held at the BSPZ last Wednesday a walk in the park after bagging more than 40 prizes thereby emerging the best secondary school in the district.
    The school’s O level teachers made a clean sweep of all the 20 subjects awards that were available for the urban schools category. They left nothing for competitors.
    Ndarama head Shirley Makausi was adjudged the best school head in Masvingo District. The district is undoubtedly one of the academic powerhouses of the province alongside Gutu District and it has such outstanding institutions as Gokomere High, Zimuto High, Christian High and Mutendi High.
    Zimuto High emerged the best O Level school in the district while Gokomere emerged the best A level school. Christian High School was adjudged the most improved school. The Merit Awards were organised by the Better Schools Programme in Zimbabwe.
    Speaking in an interview after the event, Makausi said the awards were a testimony of the hard work that every teacher, child and parent puts into the school programmes. She said that nearly every teacher walked away with a prize.
    “It’s all about hard work. We deserve the honour,” said Makausi.
    Ndarama walked away with the BSPZ, DSI’s shield and a trophy for having the overall outstanding head award which was presented to Makausi.
    The awards are divided into four categories; the urban schools, the rural schools, the boarding and satellite schools.
    Ndarama made an almost clean sweep in the urban schools category collecting more than 75% of the prizes that were on show.
    The school had three students who were adjudged the best O Level candidates in the urban category. They each scored 11As’ and 1B. Ndarama also got the Best O Level results for the urban category and it got three of its students among the five who were adjudged the best A Level students in the urban category after notching 20 points.
    Ndarama won nine of the best 15 urban A level subject teacher prizes that were on show. It was followed by Masvingo Christian that had three awards and Mucheke High that had two. Masvingo Day’s sociology teacher was adjudged the best in the subject.
    Ndarama won all the 20 prizes for “O” level subject teachers for the urban category.
    Masvingo district administrator, Roy Hove who was the guest of honour said that schools should provide conducive teaching and learning environment for quality learning outcomes. He said that Ndarama High is one such school.
    Ndarama has an enrolment of 1 457 students.
