GUTU - Gutu Rural District Council (RDC) has bought a new $156 000 refuse compactor expected to improve service delivery at Mpandawana.
The local authority had been plagued by acute refuse collection problems to the extent that it had been using a tractor to cover the whole town. There had also been complaints that a tractor with an open trailer was not ideal for collecting garbage.
Gutu RDC Chief Executive Officer, Alexander Mutembwa, disclosed the latest development to The Mirror recently and said the refuse compactor was bought from Dulys in Harare and the local authority will get its drivers trained to use it.
“Council has bought a new refuse compactor using own coffers and this will be put to work when the Minister commissions it,” said Mutembwa.
