    Beitbridge Municipality worker jailed over water connections

    BEITBRIDGE - A Beitbridge Municipality employee Nthuseni Tshivhi (27) who solicited and received a bribe to make an illegal water reconnection has been jailed for three months by a local court.
    Tshivhi appeared before Resident Magistrate Langton Mukwengi on Saturday facing charges of criminal abuse of office as a public officer after he received $10 bribe.
    Alternatively Tshivhi would pay a fine of $300.
    It is the State case that Tshivhi who is responsible for water pipes maintenance among other duties approached Jaqcuiline Sithole at her place of residence, 918 Medium Density on November 15 at around 10pm.
    He knew that her house was disconnected for outstanding bills and he demanded $50 from her to reconnect water.
    Sithole asked the accused to come back the following day. He came back at around 730pm the following night and he reconnected the water and was given $10 which he did not receipt.
    Detectives had received a tip off to the effect that the accused was moving around reconnecting closed water, collecting money and not receipting it and they arrested him at Sithole’s house.
    He was searched and found with the $10 he had received from Sithole.
