GWERU – An Upper 6 student at Thornhill High School in Gweru who is suspected to have been kidnapped was found sleeping at Mtapa Cemetery.
Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the report but there was doubt on whether the student had really been kidnapped.
Ronald Gumbo (18) says he boarded a Honda Fit near Midlands Hotel in town on Friday on his way to school.
Gumbo filed a kidnapping case at Gweru Central stating that he was kidnapped, drugged, kept in a dark room for hours, escaped and later woke up at Mtapa cemetery.
“We have a kidnapping report, the circumstances are that on Friday last week at around 10am Gumbo boarded a Honda Fit near Midlands Hotel intending to go to school.
“The driver of the car was a lady and there were three other passengers a lady and two gentlemen in the car. The car proceeded as if they were going to Thornhill but at Armtac robots the car allegedly made a U-turn.
“One of the passengers grabbed Gumbo, closed his mouth and nose with a cloth and he fell unconscious only to gain consciousness while in a dark room alone,” said Goko
He escaped after one of the kidnappers went out to answer his phone.
“Gumbo claims that he woke up under a tree near Mtapa cemetry and later made a report with his mother at Central Police. He also claims that the suspected kidnappers had a Nigerian accent. When he made his report he was referred to Gweru General Hospital because he had bruises on his back,” said Goko
Police said the report had numerous weaknesses.
