NBSZ turns down BCC request for board seat

MASVINGO- A request by the Bulawayo City Council to have their director of health services included in the National Blood Services Zimbabwe (NBSZ) board of directors was turned down after it was found to be unprocedural.
On October 25 the City’s town clerk, Christopher Dube wrote to the NBSZ requesting that Dr Edwin Sibanda be co-opted into the board of directors but this was turned down as members of the board are elected from among the blood donors.
“We found it unprocedural and unprecedented, we don’t know where they got that from because members of the board must be elected at branch level and then seconded to the board. We have never had a situation where local authorities are included in the NBSZ board, imagine if all the local authorities in the country were to do that, that would result in a bloated board,” said Rodgers Matsikidze the NBSZ board chairman.
When contacted Dube said they normally second their staff to boards which serve their interests and if the NBSZ felt there was no need for them to be included they will abide by that decision.
