The John and Edward Makovah Golf tournament is meant to raise funds for Capota School for the blind, Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund and Murambwi Foundation which pays examination fees for less privileged at Mucheke High School where the late John Makovah did his secondary education but could not proceed to A Level due to financial constraints.

This year’s tournament was coordinated by Jaqueline Makovah who is married to Farai Makovah the son of the late business mogul John Makovah who was very instrumental in roping in blacks to play golf which was largely a white dominated sport.
Farai Makovah paid tribute to the Masvingo golfers for their unwavering support to the annual tournament which is for interaction and charity.
“I would like to thank the Masvingo Golf Club committee for being very supportive to the event and I can promise that next year it will be bigger and better as we are roping Mr Zireva to assist in having more sponsors. The spirit is not to win trophies but to interact and raise money for charity.
“Many thanks to the sponsors, Masvingo Chicks, Kalunga Holdings, Masakhe Homes, Nembo Attorneys, Oasis Water and AVG. I would like to pay special tribute to The Mirror for the coverage they gave us which has made the tournament more visible to the world,” said Farai Makovah.
