MASVINGO – The critical water shortages that bedevilled Masvingo City over the last few weeks could be a thing of the past after Montana Carswell Meats bailed the local council with US$4 000 needed to replace a broken part.
Masvingo Mayor, Collen Maboke told a Press conference on Friday that the water shortages currently afflicting the City were caused by flex module soft starters that control all the systems feeding power to the electric motors at the city’s main water pump in Bushmead.
He said that council had since received a helping hand from one of the country’s leading meats company that has offered US$4 000 to buy the broken parts from South Africa. He said that the arrangement with Montana is that the money released to the local authority will be used to offset the company’s debt.
He assured residents that the broken parts have already been ordered from South Africa and if nothing goes wrong installation must take place by Saturday and residents must expect normalisation of the water situation from that day.
Maboke apologised for the poor communication to the residents on the situation and said there will be frequent updates from henceforth,
He promised the residents that full supply of water will be by next week.
“From the foregoing, let me assure the residents that the City of Masvingo takes responsibility for service provision, including water supply. We are cognisant of the need for upgrading of the infrastructure for the council to be able to provide water round the clock,” said the Mayor.
