    Illegal gold panner shot for stealing gold


    GWERU – Zvishavane Police are investigating the murder of Emmanuel Tshuma (19) a man who was shot for allegedly stealing gold ore.
    It is alleged that on October 23, 2018, Tshuma of Devon Village under Chief Mazvihwa and other illegal gold panners invaded Gold Mine and gained entry into the mine shaft.
    They were noticed by mine workers who notified the authorities at the mine and security guards were deployed in a bid to apprehend the illegal gold panners upon their exit. Among the guards was Shepherd Moyo (38) who is a suspect in the shooting. It is alleged that Tshuma was the first to come out of the shaft and charged towards the suspect with a machete in his hand.
    Sensing danger, Moyo ordered him to stand down but Tshuma continued to charge and when he attempted to strike Moyo with the machete, Moyo shot him and Tshuma’s accomplices escaped.
    The scene was attended to by Zvishavane Police. Tshuma died upon arrival at the hospital and his body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospital for post mortem.
    The suspect was arrested and is assisting Police with the investigations..
