MVUMA - Evergreen Construction and Land Developers, a company contracted by Chirumanzi Rural District Council (RDC) to construct a 3,5km road into Mushayabvudzi High Density Suburb has stopped the work due to the sharp drop in the value of the Zimbabwe dollar.
The road links Mvuma Town and the location. The work was 25% complete after being started in July 2018.
Chirumanzi RDC chief executive officer, Lovemore Chatikobo said during a stakeholders meeting held at the council hall on Monday that Evergreen suspended its operations due to shortage of foreign currency to acquire some of the needed  materials.
"The tarring of the road should have been complete by December this year but the contracted company has cited challenges in accessing foreign currency. We are yet to get a feedback from Zinara on the way forward," said Chatikobo.
Residents however, said the dust which rises from the road which is under construction posed health challenges.
They also raised concerns over the quarry stones heaped in the middle of the road saying they were hindering their mobility considering that the  road was taking too long to complete.
